Ugly Betty is a new dramedy based off of the Colombian telenovela "Yo Soy Betty La Fea." It was adapted for America by Salma Hayek and her production company. The story focuses around the various exploits of Betty Suarez, an executive assistant at Mode fashion magazine.
The show focuses on the actions of a wide variety of characters. Betty Suarez, "Ugly Betty," is the fashion challenged executive assistant to Daniel Meade. Ignacio Suarez, her father, is an illegal immigrant with health issues who tries to look out for his daughter. He is very worried that the world of fashion will destroy her. Hilda Suarez is Betty's older sister who works hard to protect her little sister. The story doesn't just center on Betty though. There is a recurring mystery invovling Daniel Meade and the true fate of Fey Sommers. Daniel has hired a private investigator, Steve, to try and discern the truth behind Fey's accident.
This show takes a good idea and makes it better. It provides a little something for everyone. Betty's adventures in the world are entertaining and touching for most viewers. If they don't like that aspect, there is always the underlying mystery about what happened to Fey Sommers. This show is the perfect blend of drama and comedy and it is sure to please everyone.
